Five Trailblazer Academy players have just returned after a 16 day tour of Denmark.
Basketball England ran the tour, which saw player selected from various AASE programs throughout the country. Kayne King, Mitch Nelson, Bec Beer, Liala Meskovska and Beth Fearin-Coster headed to Scandinavia where they took part in daily training sessions and played several games against Danish, Chineese, Icelandic and Swedish opponents. They also went into local schools to deliver coaching sessions along with a variety of excursions to local tourist attractions and took in a Danish professional basketball game.
Beth commented about the trip “It really was amazing, we all feel so lucky. We did so many cool things like segwaying around Copenhagen. And then playing against teams from China and Sweden is something I would never have dreamed I would be doing”
Academy coaches Shaw and Bowen were both also on the tour working with the ladies squad that included several England Junior players from 7 different academies. Coach Shaw added “It was great to see the students respond so well to the varying activities throughout the two weeks. There was so much packed into the schedule, not only elite basketball but plenty of AASE NVQ work, lecturing English in local schools, running coaching camps to Danish teenagers. The students represented Basketball England really well and I was especially proud of the five Derby players”
