Trailblazers Academy held their first International Summer camp last week (July 21-25 2014) which saw in total 77 young players being coached by a variety of international coaches.
Amongst the 77 campers were 29 players from Belgium who travelled to England with three national league Belgium coaches including former Noel-Baker student and Derby born Marc Hawley, who has spent the last 12 years playing and now coaching in Belgium.
The link will continue as the Trailblazers AASE students will make a return visit in 2015 for 13 days having recently been awarded a Emaris + Mobility Grant for the trip.
The camp saw a variety of Trailblazers coaches and players including Dan Watts, Kyle Henderson, Jojo Ansah and Becky O'Neill working with the young players. In addition Academy coaches Matt Shaw, Paul Bowen and Phil Storer also worked with the campers.
Special guests included Harlem Globbtrotter Paul "Tiny" Sturgess, University of Hawaii's Rema Lascelles and FIBA referee Roger Harrison.
For the Belgium Campers there were also day trips to London and Alton Towers as well as evening BBQ, all star games and a final head to head game against the Trailblazers Academy (which the Academy won 72-64 in a heated contest).
Marc Hawley commented "The hospitality and facilities this week have been wonderful, everything we could have asked for. The kids have had a great experience. We are looking forward to hosting the acadmey next year in Leige and our plan is to return again for another camp next summer"
